INTRODUCTION OF SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARD
A scientific advisory board (SAB) is a collection of individuals who bring unique knowledge and skills which augment the knowledge and skills in order to guide the Research and Development cell more effectively. The advisory does not have formal authority to govern the cell, that is, the Board cannot issue directives which must be followed. Rather, the SAB serves to make recommendations and/or provide key information and materials to the research cell. The advisory board plays an important public relations role as well as providing program stuff with a fresh perspective on programmatic issues. It is important to ensure that the scientific advisory board has a clear purpose and guidelines for membership. How the advisory group contributes to the knowledge/skills to the research cell should be formalized.
The Scientific advisory Board may evaluate the performance of a program, review/monitor/asses a specific program, serve as advocate for the organization to the community ensuring effective planning, monitoring and strengthening of programs and services and enhancing the organization’s public standing. It serves gather input from/ serve relevant constituencies, provide feedback to the organization from the community and provide technical expertise.
